Give Thanks Every Day
I recently came across an article that called Thanksgiving the “forgotten holiday.” Could Thanksgiving, a day rooted in gratitude and togetherness, truly be overlooked? It made me pause. I’d like to challenge that notion and explore how the spirit of thanks and giving is something we should embrace every day—not just in November.
A Deep-Rooted Thanksgiving Tradition
Thanksgiving holds a special place in my family’s history. With European roots, we grew up learning about the Pilgrims and Native Americans sharing a feast, the enduring charm of pumpkin pie (still one of my favorites!), and how gratitude and community were the heart of it all.
As a child, Thanksgiving was magical. It wasn’t just about the turkey and pies; it was about songs like “Bringing in the Sheaves” (even though I didn’t know what sheaves were). It was the one day a year when the house smelled of roasting turkey, and our dining table transformed into a cornucopia of deliciousness: stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and, of course, pumpkin pie. The aromas and laughter made it unforgettable.
Thanksgiving Memories: The Sights and Sounds
Thanksgiving mornings started with preparing the bread for stuffing, accompanied by the festive chaos of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV. The giant balloons floating down 5th Avenue, the marching bands, and the much-anticipated arrival of Santa Claus—it was mesmerizing. To this day, I’m still that wide-eyed kid marveling at it all.
Back then, Thanksgiving had its own spotlight. The holiday season didn’t officially begin until the last bite of turkey and the last slice of pie were gone. Today, however, Black Friday sales often start before Thanksgiving dinner has ended. But does it have to be this way? Can we slow down and savor Thanksgiving for what it truly is?
Preserving the Spirit of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving isn’t just a day—it’s a feeling. It’s about:
- Tradition: Passed-down recipes from Grandma that carry the flavors of our heritage.
- Togetherness: Gathering with loved ones, whether to celebrate or remember those who’ve left us.
- Simplicity: The warm embrace of the couch after a meal, surrounded by the laughter and love of family.
Let’s resist the urge to rush from Halloween straight to Christmas. Thanksgiving deserves its place in our hearts, not as a forgotten holiday but as a cherished tradition.
What’s New at Honey Buz? Gratitude in Action
At Honey Buz, we embrace gratitude every day. This Thanksgiving, we’re especially thankful for:
- Our Team: A small but mighty group of “busy bees” dedicated to well-being and innovation.
- Our Families: Who not only support our mission but help test products and provide valuable feedback.
- Our Friends: Who lend a hand with moving hives, tables, artwork, and countless boxes.
- Our community: That village of supporters who believe in making a difference together.
Just as the first Thanksgiving celebrated collaboration and abundance, we’re grateful to be part of a community working toward shared goals—creating natural honey and hemp solutions for your beauty, well-being, and happiness.
